Backup as a Service (BaaS)

Backup as a Service (BaaS) refers to a cloud-based data storage solution that works as an alternative to traditional data storage methods. Instead of creating and maintaining local data storage solutions, BaaS allows businesses and individuals to back up and recover their data on secure cloud systems offered by cloud providers. These services can be purchased from cloud providers, who in turn manage and secure the stored data on the customer’s behalf. The backed-up data is generally encrypted and stored on large data centres by the service providers.

Points to Remember

  • BaaS has many advantages over traditional data backup solutions, most notably — ease of use. Almost all cloud backup solutions are automatic – once set they automatically take backups periodically or in real-time.
  • BaaS is typically sought by businesses when they run out on-premise data storage spaces. However, today it has become a common practice among companies and individuals due to its reliability and enterprise-grade security and other benefits.
